New lens test at Santa Pola

Having got my new lens in the post (Sigma 150 - 500mm) I decided to put it to the test at Santa Pola. My main focus were waders but on arrival most of the birds were on the far bank, nevertheless I managed a few shots as shown below, including a nice Fan-tailed Warbler. Birds of note recorded on site today were - Marsh Harrier (7), Osprey (1), Booted Eagle (6+), Hen Harrier (1 male), Greater Flamingo (numerous), Avocet (50+), Dunlin (30+), Little Stint (10+), Kentish Plover (4), Ringed Plover (1), Black-winged Stilt (numerous), Little Bittern (1), Water Pipit (5), Iberian Grey Shrike (6) and 1 Great Reed Warbler. The Black-shouldered Kite from yesterday is also still present.

With news that the Red-footed Booby was still near Girona (2nd for Europe) along with a White-tailed Plover (1st for Spain), I will be setting off at 11pm for the long 9 hour drive north in the hope of seeing these superb birds, lets hope they stick around!!!
